Spring 2 2025
What an eggcellent term we have had! Yes, of course we had some chicks! We continued our links with Swansea Community Farm and we were able to have an incubator and some eggs - we had 4 chicks! Teddy our last chick to hatch had a 'baddie' leg so he had to go back to the farm to have some special care! Through this eggcellent hands on learning we have understood the lifecycle of a hen - we were even able to transfer this learning to the lifecycle of a seed too! We finished our topic of 'Amazing Animals' with a class assembly - we invited our families in and we also presented to our peers in our school assembly. Through this we learnt to use clear, loud voices, hand gestures (to keep our audience engaged!) and an abundance of facts that we have learnt - we wowed our families and now they all know what the collective noun for sloths...do you? If not just ask a member of our Flamingo class! Take a look at our Spring 2 learning...
Literacy
We have been learning all about explanation text - we can now tell you the cause and effect if you leave your bread in the toaster for too long! We made delicious breakfast muffins - we were able to follow the recipe - but - some got burnt! You will have to ask us why! We also took time to learn the collective names for lots of the animals that we have been learning about - we now know that a group of tigers is an 'ambush of Tigers' and a group of flamingos are called a 'flamboyance of Flamingos!' quite apt we thought! We have finished our topic with writing all about the life of a seed - we have learnt all about it and of course we now understand the cause and effect of not watering it! We are very proud of our writing. Every day we do our handwriting and phonics and we are learning to blend trickier words.
Maths & Numeracy
This half term we have been very busy working on addition, subtraction and sharing equally. We have worked with a medley of resources to help our learning - working out which is the best for us. We have also looked at time and we timed ourselves jumping, running and what happens if we leave the toast in the toaster for too long! Every day we strive to be the best that we can be and we always practise our number formation. We are very proud of our learning.
Expressive Arts
We have been creators and experimenters this half term! We have experimented with a range of art materials to make our own collage of our special place - Penclawdd Marsh. We ripped, pulled, stuck and painted various items to make the collage and reflected on it with our friends. We also reflected on prior learning and painted our sunrise and sunset pictures using Arwen Bannings sweeping technique with the brushes and blending the paint work. We thought our art was so precious that we even sold it at our sharing the learning event! We then moved on to making our back ground for our film - we made a film all about chicks - inspired by 'Andy's Adventures' on BBC i player - we knew that we needed a 'set' to film so used all our expressive arts skills to make the background. We then filmed the chicks (that was tricky as they move!), added a voice over and also relayed some facts whilst holdint the i pad safe and even zooming in!
Humanities
We have continued to learn about our own salt marsh and focused on the wonderful Marsh Ponies. We took a stroll to see if we could spot them! We also asked our families to take a stroll at the weekend and we have shared our knowledge with our neighbours too (get the pun!?! 'neigh!!'). We understand that the sustainability of the marsh is down to the ponies eating the salty marsh so that it does not grow up to space! We really have loved becoming more knowledgeable on our own ponies. We now notice them more. We have also learnt about some of our native birds - we see the red kite gliding above our playground so we found out about that and of course our noisy gulls!
Science & Technology
We had a wonderful time during British Science Week - we were able to do some coding and use the VR headsets with care. We have been busy this term learning how to use a search engine and we really have grown in confidence in doing a key word search to find out information - just ask us! We also understand the lifecycle of a hen and have been able to also relate this lifecycle to the lifecycle of a seed - it is continuous! We really are very proud of our learning this half term - we know so much about living things like the animals and have extended our learning on habitats and food groups - we can tell you about omnivores, herbivores and carnivores - just ask us!
Health & Well Being
We are healthy, confident individuals and have thrived in the outdoors and in our PE session extending our strength and agility during our gymnastics 'gardens'. We have learnt to persevere and become resilient whilst trying to climb the ropes or hold a balance. We used the yoga from British Science Week to perfect and calm our bodies into becoming strong and mindful. We are also working hard on our hydration and Mrs D and Miss G nag us to drink - because it is good for our body and our brains!
