Spring 2 2025

Well, this half-term went by in a blink of an eye!! We have had a wonderful few weeks made even better with some glorious sunshine! This is a little insight into what we have been busy doing!

Literacy

WOW! What a wonderful term in our writing area!! It's busy every day! The passion for writing is amazing! All the children have shown a great interest in writing, drawing and painting. We have had fantastic masterpieces created, from family portraits to letters to mummies. All the children are showing great improvements in pencil grip and control, and it's showing in their work, which I'm so proud of! Messy Marks on a Friday is very popular, and the children really look forward to it! We display our work on the writing wall and the children are so proud!!!

Numeracy

We have thoroughly enjoyed exploring the outdoors in the sunshine over the past few weeks. Children lead the learning in Nursery, so no two days are ever the same. While we have been outside, there have been lots of discussions about shadows and why they form and why they are so big! This led to the children wanting to compare each other's height and arm and leg length by laying on the floor and drawing around each other with chalk! We have also used lots of propositional language this half-term throughout our construction area. We built a car recently which was amazing! The children had to collaborate with each other about the size of the wheels, where the steering wheel would go and how many children could fit inside! This captured the attention of most of the class which was super special and yes, the car took us to our favourite place - Folly Farm!!

Health and Well - Being

We have had super smiley faces this half-term! The children are fully settled and are fully embracing life in Dosbarth Pengwinau! Ensuring the children feel happy and safe is my most important job! Their independence and confidence has rocketed over the past few weeks and to see all the children engage in activities in and out of the classroom makes my heart swell! We are seeing the children become confident independent learners who love school!

We are so lucky to have an amazing park on our school grounds! It certainly puts a smile on our faces!

Humanities

It's been a busy term celebrating lots of different events!! First of all, we had St David's Day, which we LOVED! We are so proud to be Welsh! The children show a natural flair for the language, but most of all, they are so passionate about being Welsh and where we come from! That is super important! To celebrate, we had different activities going on around the school that we visited! Our favourite was the Twmpath dancing with Mrs Davies! We have got some movers in the class!!

Next was World Book Day, and I'm thrilled to say the whole class have a genuine love for books and reading. It was wonderful to see the different characters come into school and listen to the children explain why they loved that character so much. We had a visit from the Year 6 pupils who read stories to the children. They were so patient and kind to the younger children, which was so heart-warming to watch! We have invited them to come and spend time with us again next term!

Science and Technology

There is a lot of love for food in our class!! We try to get into the kitchen as often as we can. The children are curious about how food is made and always have lots of questions. To celebrate Pancake Day, we asked Miss Griffiths to be our resident pancake maker!! She was over the moon! The children had so much fun cracking eggs, mixing and some even managed to flip a pancake!

For British Science Week we had so much fun making animals out of cardboard boxes!! We absolutely love animals in our class, and we are often on trips to Folly Farm!! The children were eager to make the animals, cutting and glueing! We made Betsy the Bear and Suzie the Polar Bear! This led us to talk about different habitats and what animals need to survive. We went on a bug hunt outdoors and explored the different habitats we could see. The children were enthralled!!

Expressive Arts

Well, this is a daily occurrence in Dosbarth Penguins. We are in our element, singing, dancing and creating. Children have wonderful imaginations, and it's wonderful to be able to give them the freedom and opportunities to explore and express them whichever way they want. We have paintings, drawings, singing and dancing - and that's all within the first 20 minutes!! As some of you may know, Irish dancing is a big part of my life and when I introduced it to the children on St Patrick's Day, they were mesmerised!! They all gave it a go, kicking, hopping, jumping and skipping! Even now, the boys ask for it! We might have the next Michael Flately on our hands!

HAPPY EASTER TO YOU ALL!! I hope you have a lovely holiday! Enjoy every moment!! I will miss you all and look forward to hearing about all your adventures!!
