Numeracy

This half term, we’ve learnt loads about fractions! We can now identify fractions, add and subtract them, convert improper fractions and even compare the size of them!

 

Literacy

We have been reading a story called Tiko the Tiger. We used the story to inspire us to create our own stories. We’ve learnt a lot of important writing techniques such as adding speech, onomatopoeia and how to up-level adjectives. We have nearly finished our writing and can’t wait to share our stories with you.

Topic

We have loved our Predator topic. This half term, we have been working on a design project that has brought all of our new knowledge and skills together. We decided that we were going to create some ultimate predator food and everyone knows that predators love……cupcakes! We started our project by finding out what cupcakes are already available. We used our ICT skills to create a mood board of dozens of cupcakes! Next, we took part in a taste test. This was an extremely important step in the design process (and probably the most enjoyable). From the taste test, we were able to determine which flavour combinations worked well together. We were then able to design our own cupcakes. Once designed, we had to establish a sale price for our cakes. To do this, we worked out the cost of all of our ingredients to find out how much the cakes would cost to make. We had to use a lot of maths skills for this. We were then able to decide how much we would charge for each cake in order to make a profit. We can’t wait for our grow- ups to try the cakes at our sharing the learning event!  

Other activities

We started our swimming lessons this term. We’re loving them so far and look forward to continuing after Easter. We’ve also taken part in World Book Day and enjoyed sharing our favourite books with some of our younger learners. During Science week, we had a session with Techno Camps who helped us create our very own computer game. We also got to try out some really cool VR headsets!

Our music lessons have continued this half term and we’ve enjoyed learning how to play the ukulele.
